15B. H. Davis, Reminiscences of Oxford Homes and People (Seymour Record - 1913), Chapter 3. . "   At the death of Col John, Burrett, the youngest son came into possession of the place. He married Sarah E. Osborn, daughter of Hiram Osborn of Oxford. Burrett was a very public spirited man and took a great deal of interest in the town affairs. He represented the town in the legislature several times and was selectman for sixteen years, besides filling minor town offices.
He followed the business of getting ship timber for New York ship builders in his early life, when not engaged on the farm. The lumber was prepared in the woods and carted by ox teams to Derby Landing and sent to New York by sloop.
In May, 1849, the new home was completed, which is still standing. Five children were born to Burrett and Sarah E. (Osborn) Davis." http://www.our-oxford.info/davis-reminiscences/Davis-03.html.

16B. H. Davis, Reminiscences of Oxford, Chapter 9. "  Next we come to the place known as the home of old Mother Couch, where about the year 1850 was noted as a subpostoffice, the mail being left there for the residents of Chestnut Tree Hill.  Each one in their torn would go after it and deliver it across the hill. Nearly every farmer on the hill at that time was a subscriber for the New Haven Register, and it was called the "Farmer's Bible."  Mrs. Couch died at the age of nearly a hundred years, about the year 1847. After her death, the place was sold to Burrett Davis." http://www.our-oxford.info/davis-reminiscences/Davis-09.html.

17B. H. Davis, Reminiscences of Oxford, Chapter 19. "  As we proceed on our jnourney north we come to another old house which is well worth mention. This place is known as the Osborn homestead. The north portion of the house was built by Harvey Osborn about the year 1820. After the house was finished he married Eunice Smith of Oxford, June 10th, 1820. One son was born to them, George B. Osborn, who lived with Bennett Davis for many years and was instrumental in saving the life of the writer at the time of the fire that destroyed the farm house of Bennett Davis, Nov. 12, 1849.
The first wife of Harvey Osborn died July 16, 1828. On Jan. 15th, 1830, he married Nabby Davis, one of the twin daughters of Col. John Davis.  He died in 1842. After his death Aunt Nabby lived at the old homestead until 1860 when she went to New Rochelle, N. Y., to live with a relative. She died there July 21st, 1874.
The place was afterwards sold to Edwin Alling and some time in the year 1909 the place was sold to Charles Baldwin of Seymour, who occupied it only a short time." http://www.our-oxford.info/davis-reminiscences/Davis-19.html

Note from Karen Bauer Bryant:
George's mother died when he was young. Burritt Davis is the brother of his father's second wife, Abigail Davis. She is shown living with Burritt on the 1850 Oxford census.
The house that burned in 1849 belonged to Burritt Davis. Burritt's wife, Sarah Electa Osborn, was George's cousin. She was the daughter of Hiram Osborn, one of Harvey's brothers.

Glover W., the youngest son, who has lived on the old homestead most of his life.  Several years ago he purchased the Stephen Thompson farm lying opposite the old place and removed the old structure, enlarged the cellar and built one of the finest residences in this part of the state.  The location is one of the best and from the spacious veranda one has a view of the surrounding country of many miles, and on clear days one can see Long Island Sound and the vessels sailing thereon.
Mr. Cable learned the carpenter trade with the late Frederick Beecher and John Davis of Seymour and has worked at that business in connection with his farm work. He is one of the foremost in town affairs and has represented the town twice in the Legislature, has been selectman a number of years, and tax collector and has at various times filled most of the minor offices in town.  Eight children were born to Glover W. and Elizabeth (Hatch) Cable -- Betsy, Henry, Fred, Nelson, Julia, Horace, Emma and Lillian.
